Other attractions in the capital include the Museo Canario (the most important archaeological museum in the archipelago), the cathedral and the Plaza del Espíritu Santo. Terror is the sanctuary of Virgen del Pino, the patron saint of Gran Canaria. Its celebration is celebrated on September 8th.
The town of Agüimes in the east of the island has been carefully restored and its city center, centered on an old church and a peaceful square, evokes the quiet life of a traditional Canarian town.
